MURRAYA PANICULATA ดอกแก้ว

MURRAYA
PANICULATA
ดอกแก้ว

is a tropical evergreen plant bearing small, white, scented flowers, which is grown as an ornamental tree or hedge. Murraya is closely related to Citrus and commonly called orange jasmine.  It is a native of South and Southeast Asia, China and Australia. It is naturalised in Southern USA.

Orange Jessamine is growing up to 7 meters tall and giving flowers throughout the year. Its leaves are glabrous and glossy, occurring in 3-7 leaflets.

Flowers are terminal, corymbose, few-flowered, dense and fragrant. Petals are 12–18 mm long, recurved and white (or fading cream). The fruit of Murraya paniculata is fleshy, oblong-ovoid, coloured red to orange, and grows up to 1 inch in length.

In Thailand,
we named them "daug-kaew" means Gem-like Precious Flower which reflects how the flowers are very fragile and easily breakable that ones must treat them very carefully and gentle.  I grew up with this kind of flowers and always have them by the gate or window. In a cooler evening until the breaking of dawn, KAEW's fragrance will be magically hovering and singing lullaby into your sweetly dreammy sleeping.  Because of the beauty and gracefully lovely, "KAEW" has become one of the very famous girl's nicknames in Thailand. However, there are many boys got the similar nickname too but it usually means "Gems".
